Thoughts on the upcoming hybrid CX-5?

One of our longtime customers just traded in her 2021 CX-5 Touring, and she's set on waiting for the hybrid version before getting another Mazda. I've read that Mazda's developing its own hybrid system this time instead of borrowing from Toyota. Has anyone seen more details on how it compares to the current 2.5 turbo? I'm curious if it'll feel more like a performance boost or just better MPG with less excitement.

That's the million dollar question we're all asking. My brother-in-law is a tech at a Mazda dealership so I get an earful about what's coming down the pipe. He says your customer is right that the new CX-5 will have Mazda's own hybrid system but it's a whole different ballgame from the Toyota system they put in the current CX-50. All the internal talk suggests the main goal is to beat the RAV4 in fuel economy, so I wouldn't expect it to have the same punch as the turbo.
Are you sure your customer is aware that the hybrid model might not even be available until 2027?

Mazda is moving away from the Toyota sourced setup and working on their own hybrid system now, which should land in the next gen CX5 and from what I hear from my auto enthusiast friends, it's aiming to keep the Mazda driving feel while still giving you better mileage, it won't hit as hard as the 2.5 turbo in terms of power, but it should feel more responsive than the Toyota based hybrids they've used before

If Mazda's goal to outperform the rav4 in economy then it's probably going to be slower or at least more sluggish. Now here's my question, why? I probably don't have all the info on this, but wasn't mazda comfortable with Toyota's hybrids? I mean, it's a Toyota, they've had that ugly ass prius for decades and that thing is more efficient than my zippo
